How Chiropractic Care Can Help With Ear Infections

chiropractor for ear infectionsWhen most people think of chiropractic care, they usually think of the benefits that can have for back pain and neck pain. While chiropractic care can be one of the best treatments for pain in the neck or back, it can be applied to a wide range of other conditions.

Ear infections are among the conditions that a chiropractor may be able to address. Ear infections are especially common for children under the age of six, but they can also be a problem for some adults. Whether the ear infection is affecting a child or an adult, chiropractic care can be applied to relieve the symptoms and prevent ear infections in the future.

Ear infections occur when a viral or bacterial infection affects the middle ear. This is the section of the ear that is behind the eardrum. The pain that is associated with an ear infection is the result of inflammation or a blockage in the Eustachian tube. While there can be other causes and contributing factors, most ear infections result from colds and other respiratory infections.

For the most part, ear infections are not a serious illness and there is little threat of significant harm. Most will heal on their own without the need for intervention. However, there are some ear infections that cause significant pain and there are patients that have problems with chronic ear infections. In some cases, an ear infection may result in hearing loss, and there is also the potential for the infection to spread to other parts of the body.

For people that suffer from chronic or persistent ear infections, it is important to seek treatment. Among the treatment options that are available, chiropractic care can be very effective. Chiropractic treatment for ear infections can provide relief from an ear infection that is currently affecting the patient, and chiropractic care can be applied to prevent reoccurrence in people that have problems with chronic ear infections.

A chiropractor can apply specialized adjustments that stimulate drainage in the ear. This can relieve the pressure and provide relief from the pain that is associated with an ear infection. As an additional approach to treatment, chiropractic adjustments can be applied to the upper back and neck to restore proper nervous system function and improve immune system function in a way that will help the body fight the infection.

With chiropractic care, patients can get effective relief from an ear infection. In many cases, patients can start to feel relief from the pain and pressure moments after the adjustments are performed. Continuing treatment can also help to improve immune system function and this can be an effective way to prevent future problems with ear infections.
