Dating a fellow chiropractic student in chiro school
Ryan and I met two months before starting chiropractic college. We were friends for a few months, and we started dating in the second trimester(T2) of chiro school. Balancing the hard work load of Anatomy 2, Biochem, Histo 2, and young puppy love was challenging. We helped each other study and we were attached at the hip from T2 on. Then school eased up quite a bit and our relationship matured. THEN came part one national board exams; we had no idea what to expect. We had been dating for a little over a year, and we spent every waking day together. He would come over to my house mostly, and my roommates, the Zenith road girls loved Ryan. We studied at my house, his house, and even the stinky Bloomington public library. We couldn’t spend another minute at the school. We were already there 25 hours a week for school and labs so we had to find other places to study. The studying was so intense that we spent very little leisure time together. We both passed part one and we were both getting good grades in school. In August 2013 Ryan proposed to me; I said YES obviously. He is the love of my life. He proposed to me at Taylors Falls State Park; a beautiful place where we spent a lot of time hiking, climbing, and making memories. We still hike there and go to ‘our spot’ almost weekly. We signed a lease at an apartment we thought was going to be awesome, and we moved in together. We loved living together, but our living environment was not so awesome. The first week we moved in there was a double homicide across the street from our apartment complex. Gun shots, domestic violence in the parking lot, loud neighbors, and cars getting towed in the winter made for a somewhat stressful living environment. We were short for cash and we couldn’t afford a nicer place. Student loans just weren’t enough; we were both working part time and budgeting hard core. It was a major stressful time, and on top of that part three national boards was right around the corner. So we started studying again. We kind of knew what to expect, but we still had to put in hours and hours of studying. On top of that we were both at new clinic’s doing our internships. I had to drive all the way to Eden Prairie. The miles were hard on my old Chevy cavalier. My car finally died the morning I had to go to clinic, and work two different jobs; it just wouldn’t start. I had a major mental break down. I started questioning our relationship. I started questioning chiropractic. I just wanted to run away. Ryan and my parents were always there to support me, and things were turning around. I got a new car, moved to a new clinic that was closer, and Ryan and I were closer than ever. Classes were super easy and Ryan and I were getting senioritis. We were tied down with our jobs, working every weekend. It was getting really old, and it was wearing on our social lives. So we both quit our jobs. We spent every weekend of the summer either boating on the lake, hiking at TF, or hanging with friends. That got our spirits back up and we were in a good place. We had saved enough money from working the entire year that we were able to take some time off of work. We spent the week nights searching for a city that we could open up our practice. After researching and visiting about 12 cities, we decided to open up shop in Blaine, MN. Now its the tenth and final trimester of school. Our lease was finally up, and we were able to move out of our dreadful apartment. We both decided to do our externship at Lindstrom Chiropractic Center under Ryan’s brother and dad. Since we are opening our own business we needed to save every penny we could, so we moved in with Ryan’s parents. It was hard to get used to at first. I had to send my dog to Missouri, to live with my parents, because Ryan’s parents don’t have pets. I miss my puppy, but it is worth it for the business sake. And here we are; we made it though all of that! It’s not easy dating a fellow chiro student, but it’s worth it. All the financial struggle won’t stop after graduation. We will have double the student loans coming our way. That’s all the motivation we need to start a booming business. We are going to CRUSH our student loans and help tons of people in Blaine. I can’t wait to see what else life throws at us! Because when life throws us lemons we make lemonade.
