How Chiropractic Care Can Help With Your Sinuses

Sinus problems are very common, and they can make a person’s life miserable when they are in the middle of a sinus-related issue. For some people, the problems are only occasional, but there are many people that have recurring sinus issues.

For people that have these recurring issues, finding relief can be difficult. If you have been suffering with sinus problems, you might be surprised to find out that chiropractic care can offer relief. By applying a variety of different treatment options, a chiropractor can do more than offer relief from the symptoms. In many cases, chiropractic treatments can help to reduce the frequency and severity of sinus issues.

Spinal Manipulation and the Sinuses

Part of the reason that chiropractic care can be effective for people with sinus issues is that the treatment focuses on the overall health of the body. When you have misalignment in the spine or at other joints, it can contribute to nervous system dysfunction. When the nervous system is not operating well, it can inhibit your body’s ability to deal with infections and other ailments. With regular adjustments, your nervous system and your immune system should perform better, and this could help your body in the fight against infections that can lead to sinus trouble.

Sinus-Specific Technique

Beyond restoring balance to the body, a chiropractor can also perform adjustments that are specifically designed to address sinus issues. With this method, the chiropractor may insert small balloons into the nose. The balloons will then fill up with air, and this can be used to assist with draining the sinuses. Generally, this technique is reserved for situations where the patient’s sinuses are blocked. It can be a little intrusive, but it is a way to provide relief when a patient is experience significant problems with sinuses that are blocked.

Light-Force Cranial Manipulation

A chiropractor can also perform manual adjustments to different areas of the head. In the case of a patient that has sinus problems, most of these adjustments would focus on the areas around the sinuses. With this treatment, the chiropractor will use his or her hands to adjust the bones that are right near the affected sinus. This can help to relieve pressure from the sinuses and it can also be another way to assist with draining a blocked sinus.

Other Treatment Options

Beyond applying a range of different adjustments, a chiropractor is likely to offer a variety of different treatment options. In many cases, they might make lifestyle or dietary recommendations. They might recommend different stretches or exercises that can help to open the sinuses. They may also recommend using steam or a warm compress to help loosen up the sinuses.

The specific approach to treatment is going to depend on the individual patient. On your first visit, the chiropractor will perform an examination and ask you questions about your medical history. From there, the chiropractor will develop a treatment plan that is designed to meet the needs of the individual.
